Greg Spears – President & Client Consultant

With more than 28 years of experience in the remodeling and construction industry, Greg Spears brings a wealth of knowledge, craftsmanship, and client-focused insight to his role as President and Client Consultant. He began working part-time in the company during high school, later stepping away for a period to serve in the U.S. Air Force and to explore a career in banking, before returning full-time to his true calling in construction.

Greg is a Certified Lead Carpenter (2003) and a Certified Kitchen and Bath Remodeler (2012), credentials earned through NARI that reflect his commitment to excellence and professionalism in the industry. He is passionate about working with clients to transform their spaces, finding joy in the variety of people he meets and the opportunity to bring each client’s vision to life. For Greg, the most meaningful projects are those that make a real difference in people’s lives and give clients work they can be proud of.

Originally from the small town of Shabbona, Illinois, Greg continues to bring those close-knit community values into his work and leadership style. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time outdoors, grilling on the patio, walking his pup through forest preserves, or playing golf with friends. He also volunteers in various capacities, giving back to the community he cares deeply about.

Brian Shustar – Client Consultant

With 30 years of experience in the remodeling and construction industry, Brian Shustar brings a lifetime of hands-on knowledge and client-focused expertise to his role as Client Consultant. He began his career as a carpenter and gradually expanded his skills across all trade work. For more than a decade, he owned and operated his own small business specializing in design-build projects. During that time, Brian earned two professional designations with NAHBR, CGR and CAPS, underscoring his commitment to quality and craftsmanship.

Brian most enjoys meeting clients and learning how remodeling can positively impact their lives. His favorite projects are kitchens, since they are the heart of the home and the place where family and friends naturally gather. Having served in many roles within the industry, Brian understands that the work done in a client’s home can have a lasting impact, and he takes pride in making sure it is a positive one.

Originally from Chicago, Brian moved west at the start of high school and has called the area home ever since. Outside of work, he enjoys building things, playing disc golf, and volunteering through the Knights of Columbus. He also has a passion for travel, with Europe at the top of his “live list” of destinations.

Courtney Wright – Production Manager

Courtney is a DeKalb native with a lifelong appreciation for great design and thoughtful craftsmanship. Before joining Spears Design Build Group, she worked as a Management Consultant, helping organizations improve performance, strengthen operations, and enhance the customer experience.

Although she’s new to the remodeling and construction industry, Courtney’s interest in design has been growing for years, reflected in her ever-expanding collection of design and architecture books. She brings a strong strategic mindset to every project and holds both a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and a Certified Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB).

Courtney enjoys seeing a client’s vision take shape through careful coordination and attention to detail. As she continues to gain experience in the field, she looks forward to discovering which types of projects inspire her most.

Outside of work, Courtney spends most of her time with her husband and two toddlers. She also enjoys serving at her church, visiting antique stores, and gardening. A fun fact about Courtney: she played Division I college volleyball and was a Spears Design Build Group client before joining the team!

Melissa Willis – Design Coordinator

Melissa jokes that she can’t walk into a home without imagining how she would transform it—so she considers herself lucky that turning those ideas into reality is exactly what she gets to do every day.

Melissa brings nearly two decades of experience in architecture and design to the Spears Design Build team, including the past ten years focused specifically on residential remodeling and new construction. With a degree in Architecture and a lifelong passion for thoughtful design, she thrives on the creative challenge each remodeling project presents.

Melissa especially enjoys the “puzzle” of remodeling existing homes—finding ways to balance a homeowner’s wants and needs while honoring the character of the space and improving how it functions for modern living. Kitchens are a particular favorite, especially in older homes where original charm can be preserved while dramatically upgrading usability and flow.

Originally from DeKalb, Melissa studied in Chicago before spending time in Michigan and Minnesota. She returned to DeKalb in 2023 to raise her young family and is currently restoring her seventh historic home—the 1890 Clinton Rosette home. Her personal love of renovating old houses gives her a unique appreciation for both the beauty and complexity of remodeling.

Outside of work, Melissa and her husband stay busy with their two toddler boys. When they do find a little free time, they enjoy traveling, spending summers on the lake, attending concerts, discovering great food, and hunting for unique finds while thrifting and antiquing. One of Melissa’s favorite life experiences was studying architecture in Paris for a semester, where she traveled throughout Europe and deepened her love for historic architecture and design. She is excited to work with you!

Elizabeth Metcalf – Marketing

Elizabeth Metcalf joined the remodeling and real estate industry in 2022, bringing with her a strong background in healthcare management and a passion for helping businesses grow. Before making a career change, she earned her Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration and built extensive experience in business operations, financial management, and process improvement. After renovating her first home with her husband and father, Elizabeth discovered her drive to pursue a career more closely aligned with her passions.

In her role at the company, Elizabeth combines her financial expertise and marketing insight to support growth initiatives and streamline systems that contribute to long-term success. She especially enjoys seeing the before-and-after transformations of projects and sharing in the excitement clients feel as their visions come to life.

Elizabeth is originally from Sycamore, Illinois, where she lives with her husband, Chad, and their two pugs, Midge and Mabel. Outside of work, she enjoys gardening, golfing with Chad, traveling, and making pottery. She is also active in the community, serving as a CASA advocate with CASA DeKalb County and as a board member for the Kishwaukee Special Recreation Foundation. A fun fact about Elizabeth is that she is highly competitive and loves playing games and sports.

Strong communication is central to Scott’s approach, as he enjoys listening to clients’ ideas and working closely with them to bring their visions to life. His ultimate goal is to complete each project in a timely fashion while building lasting relationships that lead to lifelong customers and referrals.

Scott’s favorite projects are kitchens, bathrooms, and basements, where he finds the greatest opportunity to make a meaningful difference in how clients use and enjoy their homes. Born in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and raised in the Chicago suburbs, Scott has spent most of his life in the area and values the sense of community that comes with it.

Outside of work, Scott enjoys long walks with his dogs and family, bicycling, attending church, and seeing live music. He is active in his community as a member of the St. Charles Sportsman’s Club, a Master Mason, and a member of both the Scottish Rite and Medina Shriners Group. A fun fact about Scott is that he enjoys remote-controlled hobbies such as cars and boats. His favorite foods are Italian beef and steak, and on his bucket list is a dream of traveling to Switzerland and Ireland.

Ken enjoys the personal side of his work, especially meeting new people and helping clients transform their homes. His favorite projects are bathroom renovations, where he loves seeing the wonder on clients’ faces as they experience the finished space.

William Marshall – Lead Carpenter

William Marshall has always enjoyed working with his hands and takes pride in building things that are made to last. He brings a well-rounded background in residential construction to Spears Design Build Group, including more than five years of framing experience, eight years in remodeling, and four years specializing in high-end cabinet installation.

For William, one of the most rewarding parts of remodeling is seeing a homeowner’s reaction when they experience their completed space for the first time. He especially enjoys projects involving trim work and decks, where craftsmanship and attention to detail can make a lasting difference.

Originally from Berkeley, Illinois, William enjoys spending his time outside of work with family and caring for their animals. And when it’s time to refuel after a day on the job, his choice is an easy one: pizza. He looks forward to meeting you!

Adrienne Snow – Administrative Assistant

Adrienne has always been drawn to the transformation that remodeling brings. She loves watching a space evolve from a blank slate into something beautiful that reflects the personalities and lifestyles of the people who call it home. To her, every remodeling project tells a story, and she enjoys being part of bringing that story to life.

While the beginning of a project is exciting and the finished result is rewarding, Adrienne’s favorite part is everything in between. She enjoys seeing ideas, dreams, and thoughtful planning come together as the vision gradually becomes reality. Kitchens are especially close to her heart because she believes they are the center of every home, where families gather and lasting memories are made.

Originally from Watertown, New York, Adrienne recently relocated from Florida to Illinois and has enjoyed discovering everything her new home state has to offer. Outside of work, she loves spending time with her family, baking, exploring local communities, and visiting the beach whenever she can. One of her favorite life experiences was traveling to Ireland with her husband, a longtime bucket list dream she was thrilled to cross off.
