About the Clients
This remodel was completed for a pair of empty nesters who have lived in their home for many years and adore both their neighborhood and their neighbors. With their children grown and moved out, the couple contemplated relocating but ultimately chose to invest in their current home. They loved their community too much to leave, and saw the remodel as an opportunity to create their dream space right where they were.
Their vision was clear: update their kitchen, master bath, and hall bath with fresh, modern finishes that reflect a “beachy,” relaxed aesthetic while enhancing comfort, storage, and functionality throughout their home.
The Challenge
The home had good bones but was beginning to show its age. Each room presented its own set of challenges:
- Outdated finishes and fixtures that no longer fit the clients’ style.
- A cramped kitchen and laundry area that limited functionality.
- Bathrooms with tub/shower combinations that felt dated and impractical.
- Insufficient storage and lighting across multiple spaces.
- A desire to maintain a cohesive design theme while updating each room for modern living.
Design Goals
Working with Spears Design Build Group, the homeowners wanted to:
- Refresh the home with upgraded materials and fixtures.
- Create a larger, more functional kitchen for cooking and entertaining.
- Add ample storage through a walk-in pantry and better cabinetry solutions.
- Transform both bathrooms into stylish, comfortable retreats.
- Integrate modern lighting and heating features for comfort and ambiance.
- Maintain a coastal-inspired color palette of whites, blues, and soft neutrals for a timeless, airy look.
Our Approach
Kitchen, Pantry, & Laundry Room Addition
To create a brighter, more functional kitchen and utility space, Spears Design Build Group constructed a 5-foot addition to the north side of the home. This addition allowed for a complete reconfiguration:
- Removed existing laundry room walls and adjacent storage closets.
- Added a new walk-in pantry and expanded laundry area.
- Reworked the kitchen layout to include a large island with seating, a custom 36” range with matching hood, and a microwave drawer.
- Installed a drop zone with cabinetry and cell phone charging drawers near the garage entrance for everyday convenience.
- Created a hidden pantry entrance integrated into a wall cabinet for visual interest.
- Added under-cabinet and toe-kick lighting, recessed ceiling lights, and motion-activated hallway lighting for functionality and mood.
Products & Finishes
- Cabinetry: Flat-panel doors in Decora White for kitchen, pantry, and laundry; island in Indigo Blue
- Range Hood: Custom hood in Decora White with Indigo mantel
- Countertops & Backsplash: Cambria Bristol Bay quartz, full-height backsplash
- Hardware: Jeffrey Alexander Zane pulls in satin nickel
- Flooring: 5” Hickory in a natural finish (kitchen); Color Story Stable 12×24 porcelain tile (pantry/laundry)
- Sink: Elkay Crosstown double bowl workstation

The result is an open, light-filled kitchen that feels both coastal and contemporary — perfect for entertaining, cooking, or simply enjoying a quiet morning coffee.
